Hi, I noticed yesterday evening a pale blob on my RTBS and me worrying that it might be white spot or something looked really long and hard at him.

When he finally sat still on a leaf I noticed that it looked like someone had munched a chunk out of him as it is a mouth shaped wound. I haven't really got anything in the tank he might of hurt himself on but there is always that possibility of him getting stuck somewhere.

It's just before his anal fin, he is still pooping and swimming around as though nothing has happend. It's definately a wound and not white spot etc.

The other fish that are in my tank are:

2xangels
3xneons
5xdanios

Could any of them done it? None of them seem to be going for him and he isn't aggressive at all as yet.

Also if I needed to add aquarium salt would the other fish be ok? I thought neons didnt agree with salt too well.

Should I just keep an eye on it for now as it doesn't seem to be bothering him? I cant take a good picture as he wont sit still long enough and I've only got a camera on my phone which is a bit pants.

Any thoughts and ideas appreciated.

Vicki

Do you have any sharp objects in the tank? I dont think any of those fish in your tank would have bothered him....unless the angels teamed up on him....but maybe something sharp? Just a guess on my part.

Hi - You can treat open wounds with Melafix - if it's not treated then it could turn septic with infection. Might not be bothering him too much at the moment but could get worse in time.

All the best - Athena

Nothing that stands out at being sharp, I had a good look because I didn't think those fish would hurt him but definately couldnt find anything. If it was a sharp object then surely the wound would be more tear like rather than a chunk?

Was thinking of getting something like that, would any of the other fish be affected by it? The wound isn't massive but not sure that it would heal up on its own.

No wont harm the other fish, its a natural herbal remedy.

Ok, in the meantime, do a good water change, fresh water is always good in helping an open wound :good:

Unfortunately he died last night

I looked again at the wound and it really does seem like a bite.

There is nothing in the tank that is sharp.

None of the fish are really big enough to do much damage apart from maybe one of the danio's as they sometimes chased him - Could one of those be the culprit?

If not then are there any kind of diseases that it could of been, like a weird form of fin rot etc? It was next to his anal fin but didnt effect the fin in any way.

This is really weird
