Fish Fanatic
This is not exactly an emergency, but a curious phenomena that still makes me very nervous when it occurs. The "red spot" and "white bumps" seem to be unrelated.
This is on my comet, I've had him for 2 years in a tank. 3 or 4 times now he has gotten a red spot on his forehead, almost exactly between his eyes but a little farther back. The spot is quite a contrast to his white-silver-pinkish body. There is no hole, no growth, no red or pink streaks/spots anywhere else on his body. After a few weeks, the spot fades quickly and disappears.
The white bumps are about as big as a dull pencil point, they seem a little cystlike and all are growing in the same very lowest ray of his tailfin. These are not on the surface but inside-like. It started with one, there are now four (it's been a few months) and they are spaced pretty evenly out. At first I worried it was ich (I've thankfully never experienced) so I added some salt, but to no effect.
Otherwise, the fish is very healthy, energetic, and has an insatiable appetite. My tank parameters are: pH 7.1, NO2 0.0, NH3/NH4 0.0, and NO3 maybe up to 5ppm before water changes.
Before it is recommended, I have perused this

and MANY other similar articles. Has anyone else experienced this with their fish, it sure does worry me that more of these "cysts" will come. Thanks.
