Hi, the Red Severum in my 5ft community tank developed these 'fuzzy' spots/growths on his pectoral fins some months ago and although they tend to come and go to an extent they never go fully so I think it's time I considered medication. The tank is established and has had no other known disease and no mortalities in the last three years. All the other fish appear completely healthy and the Severum is acting as normal, as though the spots are not bothering him. I do a 50% water change every week and tests always confirm no ammonia or nitrite present.

Please can anyone advise what this is and what medicine I should consider. Here are a couple of photos - not brilliant but you should be able to make out what I'm talking about.

Stunning looking fish mate. I have never been keen on these Severum, but yours is trully stunning and one of the best that I have seen.

With regards to the growth, one of my Pictus Cats had a similar fungul growth on its tail earlier in the year. I tried to treat it with water changes, but it eventually led to fin rot and he lost most of his fin. I dosed with JBL Fungol and after two whole bottles of it it stopped it dead and reversed the decay. The fin is now fully recovered.

It does look like a fungul growth of some kind so it might be worth trying the JBL Fungol stuff.

Thanks for that, I thought it might well be fungal...will see if I can pick up the JBL Fungol tomorrow.

I found some eSHa 2000 that I'd forgotten I had but was still in date. Anyway, the 3 day course finishes this evening and the fungus seems to have almost gone, but not quite.

Am I safe to continue using the medication for another few days? If, so, do I repeat the large Day 1 dose or just continue with the lower dose that applies to the 2nd and 3rd day?
