Ive got a red sea max skimmer prizm and first of without bruising your ego they suck and under skim what the box says but mine is adequate for my bio load, firstly the collection cup isn't meant to be full of water but you will find that it will ONLY skim wet but you can get some very dark skim after a lot of tweaking.
you need to adjust the flow rate on the water in tube. i have my water line in the riser tube about 1" away from the lip. as for the noise, mine is also very very noisy, Start off by padding out the pump with ..anything, Ive got some sponge, the air tube should be pushed into the collection cup (if you look under the lid of the collection cup there is two little notch things, one blocked and one that leads into the collection cup. the blocked one is for priming but i just pinch the tubing and restrict the air flow. when attached to the collection cup the sound is reduced as appose to when its left un attached to anything.(bad grammar but i think you should understand), ill post some pictures later but if you can id get a better skimmer they are pretty rubbish.
I'm looking into a new tank and skimmer as we speak, from a 90Lt system to a 250 or 350 system (including sump) just need to explain to my father the benefits of an extra 6" depth (looking aka 3ftx2ftx2ft and a 3ftx2ftx1.5ft)
anyhow hope that helps (buy tunze and deltec gear its soo much nicer, I'm swapping my stuff out received a tunze ATO and a deltec FLuidizor earlier today woo)
Also my LFS has some sort of TMC V2 line skimmer on their 6-7ft display tank and it pulls out some incredible stuff on low bioload...that or they just never clean it and let it evaporate leaving all the nasty behind

"shrugs")
Good luck what ever
