I have found this fish recently and wondered if anybody could give me some info on them as I was interested in getting a pair or two, depending on which would be best to get of course. The sci name is Aulonocara hansbaenschi and the common name is red shoulder peacock but I've also found them being called orange shoulder peacocks as well, possibly a colour morth. Any help or info on them would be great, thanks.

Thanks michael, but I've already done my own researching on them. I just want to cross reference what I've learnt from texts with what people who have actually owned them here can tell me so I know I'm covered on all bases accuracy-wise. I choose not to take everything I read as solid fact, hearing it from experienced people can be alot more a goldmine of truth. I apreciate the response though :)

MY roomate and my GF both have Red Shouldered Peacocks, they mix nicely with the rest of their Malawi cichlids, labs, haps, etc. They behave like and spend time with the Ruby Red Peacocks, are not terribly shy, but don't seem terribly aggressive.

do you think that a pair would be ok with a couple of Lamprologus ocellatus if enough room and hiding spots were provided?
i wouldn't recommend it, one guy i know had shellies in with peacocks in a 50 gallon tank, the peacocks ate the shellies one by one.
apparently, peacocks dive into sand to find food in the wild, and having sand in the tank encouraged this natural behaviour. not much fun for the shellies!!!!
