:) Hi just need to ask I have a Red Eye Tetra and it has a white lump on it's side. All up I have five Red Eye Tetras and they all seem in excellent health including this one and swim around fast and seem happy. But this particular one has had this lump on his side for a little while and I guess it looks a little like a pimple only a bit bigger and white in colour. He eats really good and swims around fast and seems as if nothing is wrong.Sorry I can't provide a photo but was just wondering if anyone had any ideas what it is?

I think i saw in the other thread that you said the fish was losing weight, any signs of a bent spine, the pimple sound like a bacteria infection, does it have a circling of red around it, or a red spot in the centre of it.

sounds like some sort of abcess which could well be bacterial.....can you isolate the fish?? id try something like melafix to start off with & then maybe move to a stronger antibacterial med.
good luck

:) Hi Wilder and Millym.Well the fish I spoke of is still alive but I have just lost one of my other Red Eyes. The one I lost seem to get a pimple of white on his head quite quickly but didn't appear to be losing weight. It didn't appear to have a bent spine.I didn't see any red on his/her head but there could have been.As for the one that is still alive that has problems it doesn't appear to be losing weight either or doesn't appear to have a bent spine. It appears like a growth on it's side and does have the slightest slightest barely noticeable red tinge behind the white growth.I've noticed the one that died appeared a little sluggish and the one that is still alive appears a little sluggish now too they didn't before.Well thanks for your time and excellent advice with treatments and diagnosis just thought I'd add this information as it might help pinpoint excatly what's going on as prior I didn't give you alot of information. Thanks again :good:

It's bacterial and you will need a antibiotic, can you issolate the fish for treatment, did the fish lose weight through not eating.

:good: Thanks Wilder.Which antibiotic do you reccommend I'm in Australia so I need something available to me.Can I actually treat the whole tank or is it very very important to isolate the fish it's just I don't really have a hospital tank at moment as it is occupied by a discus at present. To me the fish don't appear to be losing weight but I'm only really new to fishkeeping and have only had fish since April of this year.So mabye they could have lost weight and I haven't been able to tell properly but to me they did look fairly nice sizes.Well thanks again :)

Tetracycline but it will wipe the bacteria colony out in the filter.

find tetracyclin gel-tek if it eats this med will NOT wipe out the colony

:( The Red Eye has passed away. The two Red Eyes that were sick are both now gone. The rest of the Red Eye Tetras I have are in excellent health and I have added two more to make them all happy and they are really happy now :) Least two more got a home out of the tradgedy so all is Ok.Well thanks so much for all your help you guys I will be ready and informed for if it happens again.Cheers :good:

If you do a search of my postings you can see ive had major probs with Red Eyed Tets and tryed loads of different meds.Mine starterd out as 1 small white lump in the gill/side of face area then within a few days doubled in size....tryed every med available to me...spent over £60 just on meds alone and they all still died and took a lot of my stock with them aswell :(

that sounds like "ick" or white spot to me, happened to my fish, its a parasite that breaks through the scales of a fish and sucks on the blood, once its infected its usually fatal and nothing can be done, but you can still get some ick control.

:) Thanks for the advice guys.Well so far so good with the other Red Eyes I have. I'll be taking very good care of them and observing them very closely to make sure I get in early if it looks like happening again as I love my fish very much.Sounds as if Red Eyes can cause dramas. It's a shame cause they are so cute.Well I thank you guys again for your advice cheers from steph :good:
