I think im in the right forum, if not please advise!

Im looking into a red devil or some im not too sure yet as im planning a bigger tank, around 50 gallon is all I can fit in the space I have.

Iv already seen them full size and relise they are big and aggesive, what type of community will go well or at all with this type of fish? Is there any Barbs or Gouramis that will be safe with it? Will Severums also be ok this?

Cheers
Kyle

You dont want to be keeping a red devil in that tank size for a start, and if you did and added other fish , it will be killed for sure. (gourami's will be eaten) , and a severum will prby be killed, severums are more of a docile fish.

Im not trying to be rude or anything, its for the welfare of the fish.

Just a bit of advice, even in a tank 3 time the one you can fit, the red devil will kill eventually everthing in its tank, unless you have a "nice" red devil, which is not always the case. and he could live with 1 other big cichlid.

If you want cichlids why dont you go with some smaller species, like the flyer cichlid, only reach 6 inches i think,(instead of a possible 14in for the red devil) or some t-bar cichlids ? there are lots of choices,. I admit, they arent as in your face as the red devil or midas, but if you want a red devil, the bare minum is a 75 gallon, 100 gallon would be the best to house one red devil.

Anyways, thats just my 2 pence !

lol i thought so!

Iv been looking them up and they do seem very aggresive, I found a lfs near me that has a huge tank with about 20 or so in full size, they never fight, the owners pretty much an expert on them and say theres one that keeps them all from fighting, ist about a foot long like!

I just thought id get some opinions before I try it, think ill stick to severums as they seem more peaceful, also any advise on Parrots? Are they peacful enough for the severum or any community fish? I know there a hybrid that puts me off a lot mind...

Cheers
Kyle

I think you could keep 1 serverum in the 50 gallon, and maybe some other smaller fish, but i will leave others to comment for other fish,

Parrots have the same personallity as the severum i think, they are also docile, dont cause throuble.

Thanks mate, im looking at 5 clown loaches for a start then hopefully some smaller fish depending on whats compatible or not

clown loaches need a much bigger tank too.

90 gallon minimum i think it is.

dont mean to be harsh but once you put something like a severum or parrot in a 50 you cant put that much more in.

you could go for maybe a couple of sevs and a small species of plec.

personally with a tank that size id go for rams, keyholes or kribs cos then theres loads of room for gouramis and even other types of loach that dont grow as big.

Thanks for that ill look into them, your not been harsh at all I wanted a bigger tank but I can only fit a 50 gallon in the space I have  Just trying to get an idea of what I could keep

Also SamUK thought id let you know I took that discus back and they agreed it shouldnt have been sold and swapped it with a severum which I know also needs a bigger tank but im looking at getting my new tank next month, hopefully anyway!

i have a male 8" bp and he attacks everything and trys to kill you through the glass. hes very mean. and you might need to consider that bps can evedentually be very aggresive.
