Hi there,

I've got 20 juvenile Red Devils (about 3 months old, 1 inch long), which I keep in a 20 gallon tank. I only keep these 20 babies in the tank, no other fish.

How long can they stay together in this size of tank, before I have to move them to a much bigger tank?

I read lots of articles about Red Devils. Most of them say, that you could only have 1 Devil (or a pair if it's a 70 gallon or more) in a tank.

Considering they've come from the same batch and raised together since they were born, is it possible to keep them all in one tank? I'll move them to an 80 gallon tank soon.

Otherwise, what should I do with these babies???
Red Devil Lovers & Experts, please give me your opinion...

Thanks a lot in advance!!!

You can send one to me.. lol. I got my red devil at about 3 or 4 inches and he was not real agressive to other RD's or Midas but he was to other fish. He started getting realy mean at about 7 inches. But thats just what I've noticed with my red devils behavior.

I would start looking for new homes keeping only those that you wish to keep. i.e those that exhibit the best qualities that you want. but that is just what I would do.

I second that. They may be ok together for now, but they're likely to get nasty once they reach sexual maturity

Thanks guys, for your replies. I will probably have to find new home(s) for some of the babies and keep only a couple.

I'm just wondering, if anyone has ever kept mature 20 Red Devils in one big tank successfully...??? I mean, without them killing each other...

Hope to hear from you! Thank you!!!

I haven't heard of it being done, but I guess it might be possible in something like a 500 gallon!

Yeah right, I might just keep them in my swimming pool...

Someone mentioned in this forum, that you could put Clown Loach with NW Cichlids. Is it commonly done? Would it be safe to keep RD and Clown Loach together?

keeping thm can be done

I had some clown loaches in with my midas and oscar one time, but then the midas decided she didn't like them anymore...... they went back to the LFS for their own safety
You could give it a try, but just be sure that you can return them if anything goes wrong.

I have Clown Loaches with my Firemouths and Green Terrors. No one bothers the Clowns they seem to have some sort of calming effect over more aggressive fish :fun:

Not that I'm reccommending putting CL with aggressive fish! :look:
