Just wondering if this would breed with my standard bristle nose? And if it did, what would it produce?

Here's a photo of him trying to hide... the tank is a 50 gallon

Axy!

I'm guessing breeding is the same as regular BNs. They should breed together provided they're male and female. The offspring will be a mixture of reds, normals and maybe some red blotched ones? Not sure on the latter but it could happen.

Good luck and be sure to show pics of the future BNs. :)

Thank you tall tree... I've tried researching but couldn't find a clear answer. I've heard they're fairly uncommon so it would be nice to breed them :)

I haven't checked but I assume the 'reds' are a variation of albino :)

It will certainly breed with a normal bristlenose assuming they are the right sexes ;) and that they like each other!!

Though... I will quote..

All the variations of the common bristlenose can be crossed. The variations include common, albino, long fin, short fin, marble (calico), super red and L144. There are other morphs of the common bristlenose as well however these are much rarer and more expensive. My advice is if you have these rarer types of the common bristlenose and you want to breed them, get a male and a female of the same variation as crossing may result in having none of the desired results in your fry.

Which is about right!

I only really know hamster genetics which is easier as each colour is coded and easy to create a punnet square which can give you potential outcomes of a pair and the percentage of likelihood as well.

I'm not entirely sure how dominant the albino gene is in ancistrus.. I probably have articles saved somewhere... but I know when I looked into breeding 'odd' coloured bristlenose... the consensus was 'get several of them!'... got the better of me and I bought 6 calico bristlenose! Didn't get chance to breed them though :(

Thanks for the info.. I think this is a 'super red' I just got this as I love my other bristle nose. If they do take to one another so be it..

There are plenty of hiding places in my tank but I didn't want to risk getting a few of them and them all fighting but I knew I would be safe with just the two. A breeding project would be cool but until I move out of the rents house, I'm limited :/

I'm going to upload a couple of pictures of my tank soon, as it's grown in noticeably and I've got some java fern and anubias (finally) :D
