Hi I pretty much 99% know the answer but is there any fish a piranha will not consider to be food and generally leave alone?

I have read an article that small small fish are ignored as they impose no territorial threat nor large enough to waste energy on considering food.

Is there any truth to that.

The original owner has had him on feeders ... I have had him feeder free since I have owned him ...

Honestly, I would just stick to conspecifics. Some people have had success with keeping them with other fish though. Common plecos seem to be the most common fish to work out.

Yes yes I read in an article they seem not to care about these guys ... I don't have any visiable algae for them to eat though.

I heard when pleco's get big they can be rough ... they aren't going to decimate each other one day are they.

My piranha is the big dog in my tank I can't have a bigger dog beating him up he is my pride and joy.

plecs tend 2 be rough with there own kind IME another male for instance so i dont think u would have much of a problem

the no algae thing isnt a problem as long as u make sure u feed him enough on other foods

What other foods would be best?

Does anyone know how big the plecs introduction size would have to be?

See I could see this working 2 way either the plec just grows to be and the Piranha simply takes no notice as the article expects or I get a plec that is large enough to spook the Piranha Into harmony (knowing that doesn't sound harmonical which is a word i just invented).

I would love to do this but I want to know the optimal conditions for success.

Just posting what I've seen.....

I've seen them with plecos(Nearly all the time), silver dollars, pacus(But one day I saw a pacu's head floating around.....Yikes!) Very unusual......Oscars! They left each other alone, do to the eye spot thing. And the worse, Tilapia buttikoferi, who was kicking the piranha's butts till the woman removed him!

I'd say don't do it. Enjoy your fish alone as he is:)
