One of my Zebra Danios has a red anus. It could also be the mom of my batch.

what a great title!

Mm, i have no idea what that could be... maybe, just as some gills get red and inflamed from ammonia or whatever, maybe ...other things... do as well

is the anus inflammed?
are there any strands hanging out?
does the fish have clamped fins?
are there any other abnormal symptoms?

Red anus can be internal parasites.

I doubt this will be much help, but I occasionally notice this on one of my zebra danios too. I've never bread them (I don't even know which ones are male or female), and they are about one year old now. I have no idea what might cause this, but i have seen it before. :dunno:

I don't think a red anus would prove the sex at all. Aren't the females usually bigger, but thats it? I just got 5 zebra danios and except for certain ones acting more aggressive I cannot for the life of me even geuss which are which.
