Recommended Heaters...?

Good morning, I’m just about to start a new tank and wondered what recommendations you have for a heater?

The tank is 24” x 12” x 12” (54 ltrs). It’s going to be heavily planted and as low tech as possible...but not cold!

I've recently set up a tank with the Eheim thermo control 100 and it seems to be holding a pretty stable temperature. I think the 50 would just about work for a 54 litre.

I've also found the aquael ultra heater to be quite reliable, although the temperature setting is digital and can only be raised and lower in whole degree increments.

Id go for a 75w for a 50l...a 50w may struggle in the winter

I’ve gone too fast and already ordered the 50w ?

If necessary, I’ll order the higher wattage at a later date- it’s probably a good idea to have a spare ‘just in case’ ??

Unless the room gets very cold in the middle of a winter night, the 50w should be OK. The next one up is 100w (they don't make 75w) so if you get another, go for the 100w.

And yes, a spare in the cupboard is always a good idea, as are spares for filters. One advantage to Eheim is that replacement suction cups are readily available for when the current ones go hard and won't stick on the glass so having Eheim filters as well I always have spare suction cups in the cupboard.

I like Eheim, if only because I can get replacement suckers I've had to replace filters in the past which stopped sticking to the glass but the suckers were not removable

Though I will admit to having a Visitherm heater in my shrimp tank.

Yeah no one likes a sucker that doesn't suck!

I don’t have a huge amount of “kit” yet but I have already replaced a filter that came with my first tank with an Eheim, so it sort of makes sense to stick with a brand - especially as they seem to have a good reputation..?
