Recommendations For Silent Filters.

A little late, but I'll put in my input anyway.

We currently have an External Power Back Filter made by AquaClear. Its mostly quiet, save for the "waterfall" sound that the filter makes nonstop while filtering water back into the tank. I find it relaxing though, not annoying.

At one time we used to have a Fluval. The seal leaked, the filter wouldn't seat properly when media was changed, and we had to take it back to our FLS for multiple repairs. At one point we had to evcuate for a hurricne and when we came back home found that the power had gone off and the Fluval had proceded to drain about 55 gallons of water out of our 75 gallon tank. All this water ended up soaked into our floors, into our cabinets and into our walls. We had major water damage, not from the storm, but because of the filter. Between the leaking seal, seating problems, repair work and the Fluval literally draining the tank everytime the power went off.....the Fluval eventually found its way to our garbage can. -_-

ok think im a bit late but just wanted to agree with the fluval 2 being quiet, if you keep it below water level tho you will have to find another way to aggrevate the water

xXx

I'm very new to this.

Why does the water need to be aggravated (I assume you mean the surface)?

And how could I go about this?

Thanks.

It helps oxygen enter the water. To name a few options, you can use an air pump with an airstone to create bubbles, place the filter outlet above water level (obviously not quiet), place the outlet below water level and aim it upward toward the surface, or use a separate powerhead to do any of these things.

To add another quiet filter to the list, my Eheim 2213 is almost completely silent. If I couldn't see the water moving, I would have to lean down and put my ear next to it just to make sure it was still running.

Cheers for all the advice.

I bought the Fluval 2+ for £19.99 and it is silent when fully submerged, and not 'too' bad with the air inlet adaptor above the water.

The little adaptor which sits in the air inlet to allow it to pump oxygen into the tank, it is when this is attached that it is a 'little' noisier.

Question: Should it be ok if at night I remove the inlet adaptor, meaning the filter is only filtering, not putting any oxygen in the water - this will obviously be put back in in the morning?

my jwuel filter is silent i cant hear it atall, apart from the water splashing in but you can prevent with by adding an extra litre or 2 in until the pipe is under then it is SILENT
