looking for a powerhead for my tank.size of tank in inches 48l x 18w x 24w and 340 litres, don't really want a strong current just a gentle flow round the tank.and where do people position their powerhead same side as intake or opposite.

cheers

scott

Usually people place them on the other side of the tank then the intake so the powerhead pushes water into the intake to go into the filter

I really like the Koralia for that. They have a removable director on the end that once you remove it the flow is widened and tends to be a nice easy to deal with flow for livestock. Since there are various sizes you can get one that is just right for your tank, remove the end, and you're good to go. Two of them can be placed on a JBJ pulse duo and set to alternate which creates a nice random flow in the tank.

I was looking at something like this for my upcoming Loach tank

These are what your talking about right? Does removing the end piece void any warrenty?

The end piece is meant to come off. Actually...I think it comes off and you have to put it on. Here's what it looks like on.

As for which model to get it says on the box what gallon of tank it's recommended for. Depending on what's in the tank I use that as my guide. You can get the recommended on, or one smaller if you are looking for less flow.

where do other members place their powerheads,at the same side as the intake or opposite side?

It all depends on your fish themselves, but most people I've seen have the powerheads push the water towards the intake, better chance at removing deadspots or pushing waste towards the filter to get sucked up
