Anyone recommend smallish gouramis i can put in my community tank? Two foot tank, 13.8 uk gallons/63 litres, 10 danios so far.

Honey gouramis  They get about the same size as the dwarf/neon gouramis (maybe a bit smaller)but Honeys are much healthier and less likely to get diseases, like Neon gouramis :D

Other gouramis you could look into are croaking gouramis and sparkling gouramis :)

They can be intolerant of each other , may /will fight , or a dominant one will pick on a weaker one .

We've had luck putting 2 or more of the other species mentioned together .

How about Dwarf gouramis?
I think they are relatively peaceful, but as I said they are very susceptible to many diseases due to a lot of interbreeding to get their bright colors :)

Well the ones I saw in a Fish shop were sold as a pair. The male was silvery with a red belly and the females same without red belly. I have wondered why that was because in other not so great pet shops they are a bright blue colour.

That doesn't sound like a dwarf gourami at all... Are you sure that's what they were?

You know - I was just thinking about what they might have been and it suddenly dawned on me that you are talking about pearls! lol - those are my absolute favourite fish :p Anyway, they get to 5" and are wonderful but they are NOT dwarfs :p Not a good choice for a small tank though you could get a single one if you realy like them. No other gouramies though and no nippy fish as they have beautiful long fins. The scientific name is trichogaster leeri - as opposed to colisa lalia (dwarf gourami) and colisa chuna/sota (honey gourami).

Well I must have made a mistake, I would like to get more than one so I'll stick with the wee ones. Thanks guys for the info.

If it was labelled as a dwarf gourami, could it have been a sunset (aka "flame") dwarf gourami maybe? Like this? (scroll down - 2nd picture down in the right column) I see that particular color variety a lot at my local Petmart.

Otherwise Sylvia is probably right, she's the gourami guru. ;)

They did kind of look like that but the males were not as red as that, just on the belly. I'll go back soon and find out.
