I just bought some driftwood from a display tank at my lfs. Does it matter if I let it dry out because I won’t be putting it in my tank for a few weeks? Also is there anything I need to do to “quarantine” it after being in a display tank?

Was the display tank kinda gross and did it have sickly looking fish in it? If so then I would give it a good soak in hot water to kill off any unwanted bacteria/pests/fungus etc. You can also let it dry out so long as there isn't any plants on it.

Other then some sickly plants nothing looked bad. It will dry out before I put it in the tank. Other then drying it out should I do anything else?

Depending upon the type of wood, drying it out might mean having to water log it again before it will sink. Also, once wet, it is best kept wet. I would suggest keeping it in water, such as a bucket (if it will fit) or a spare tank. Just water is all you need, and here I would use straight tap water. The chlorine may deal with any unwanted guests, but will not harm the wood.

Okay I have a bucket I can put it all in I may just have to rotate it to keep it all wet which won’t be that difficult. I can transfer it to a tank in my garage as soon as I get a tank from a friend to use to temporarily store some fish in the future.
