my new platy that i got yesterday was having a baby as i woke up it was half in her and half out shes had 2 fry that died by the time they where born and she has droped about 5 eggs but shes still really fat and got a dark gravid spot
is she ok ?
will the eggs hatch ?
what can i do ?
thanx for any help

Kizno, it sounds like she may have been stressed by being moved to a new tank. That can cause a female to deliver early and the fry are usually not viable when that happens. A platy will typically deliver fry about every 4 weeks so you will get another chance with her.

thanx
but she hasnt delivered any more in about 5 hours but shes still really fat and got a really dark gravid sport
will she drop more?
and if she dose will they be ok ?

Hi Kizno

I'm sorry to hear about your fry. I'm afraid the eggs are most likely dead. Aparently livebears can reabsorb their fry and start again which I would guess has happened here. I am sure someone with a little more experience will be along shortly.

Again I am really sorry for what has happened. Its very sad, but as Oldman said before, another 4 weeks and she will be ready to pop and won't have the stress of being moved. Be sure to mark today on your calender so that you know when to expect it next time.

i know he said thet but why would it still be really fat and have a dark gravid sport wouldnt it ove cleared them all out

mate sorry to say but those eggs are actually miscarriaged frys so they are dead
this can happen due to stress and she is still fat then she will be having some later or tomorrow

If she holds off delivering the rest long enough, you could still end up with some live fry. I try not to handle my livebearers within a week of the expected birth because I find that the births are more successful that way. The early birthing is not unusual but is unfortunate.
