hi

i have been to my lfs today and i got a spotted manderine and is really really thin i have got 4 tubs of co-pods which were £16 each and i bought a fish bolw and a bottle of phyctoplyton soz for spelling and a airpump can anyone tell me what to do as this fella was in the lfs for 3 months now and didntrealise how skinny he was so how do i set up the pods things

do i just fill up with saltwater and add two tubs of co-pods and put plyanton in ?

regards scott

Best to use fresh salt water scott.

Use someting with a large footprint rather than a tall tub.

Very slow air flow.

Feed phyo till theres a green tinge to the water.

Top up regular!

thanks for the reply i have made up saltwater last night for a water change but this mandarin comes first he is picking at the rocks he might have found some food wat about a clear tray which is 2ftx1.5ftx1ft could i use that for them

this little fella is not eating on frozen and dought he will make it to the end of the week the way things look with him just relised he has no right fin been bitten on his tale i have put him in my reef tank but how can you train them to eat frozen
regards scottt

Have a look in chit chat at a thread I started called Mandarin Love. I put alot in there about feeding and there is a link to the Mandarin diner..

Mine chose to go into a cave in the rock when the other fish were fed, I started to feed them in the cave, they know now and if they are hungry and want some frozen, they go into the cave and I use a large pipette to squirt food into them. The pipette I use is 30cm long, they are skittish of hands, but don't mind the pipette.

I do have to squirt food at the shrimp to keep them away from the mandarins though.

hi

well the mandy is looking a lot better than yestarday so i cant complain still shy but seem to be when i feed brine shrimp he comes out and dose swim so he might eat the brine shrimp very shy so dont go near the tank while i am feeding and it is aa female so hopefully i have saved her all i can do is hope for the best !

regards scott

Fingers crossed Scott, least you have a nice big tank for her :good: how much live rock do you think you have in there?

Seffie x

:fish:

hi

the tank has 80kgs of live rock and is a 4x2x2 there is alot i thought i would rock it up from the front of the glass to the top of the glass at the back so there is a nice slope it has been running for 6 months but talking things steady as the lights i have got are 3x t8 blubs so will upgrade when bussiness picks up at the work i can olny keep soft corals in there but with 6 corals which will be nice when the mushrooms spread but ther is only 5 fish in the tank which include 2xcommen clown fish, yellow watchman goby, royal grammer, convict goby but it looks nice the way it is it was only to be a reef with no fish but i got board of no movment lol

regards scott

You should have plenty of pods on that amount of rock for the Mandarin Scott.

Having the culture will mean you can just keep topping the pods up in the tank.

A mandarin should thrive im that environment.

Did you get the pod culture going ok??

Have you tried feeding in a jar or in a cave for Frozen food??

hi

well i cant find her any where today and have put pods and brineshrimp in but nothing i dont think she is still there

but fingers crossed

Depending on how the rock is laid out, you may not see her. Seffie says hers is only visible at dusk at the moment.

I must say, having a pair does mean mine are out and about much more then keeping just one. They are usually visible somewhere.

What size was she when you got her??

hi she is a fair size about 2.5" but the thing is she was in the shops invert coral tank but was really fin and the bones you could she she did look a lot better yestarday but i have not seen her today etheir has the wife of kids as the wife loves her but not a thing i can see through my rocks at a side as there on a egg create so i can see right to left but nothing

regards scott

They usually do quite well in coral tanks as there are no other fishy pod preadtors there.

If you can see behind the rocks it is not sounding good.

My first one went belly up where I could see it and I managed to get it quite quickly I think.

They should be on the move constantly, as that is how they feed, if they are too weak to move constantly, they usually will not make it.

Sorry Scott. Hope I am wrong.
