I understand you're angry but come on. You can't blame the fish for your lack of research. You can't trust every pet shop employee, I know they should know what they are on about but the reality is far too many just see £££ when they sell fish.

Also, a minor point, the jewel cichlid is an old world cichlid.
Sorry if this sounds like an attack but really its not the fishes fault, whatever you do DO NOT FLUSH IT. Think of the slow painful death that will follow, probably the least humane thing to do.

This is why you research before you buy. Jewels are notorious for being aggressive. One search on Google could have told you that.

Why would you flush it down the toilet? It's just acting like any jewel cichlid would. If you want to do something with it, get a breeding net and keep it in there until you can get a hold of the LFS.

Oh mate, PLEASE DO NOT FLUSH in this case. Your LFS will take it back, or even donate it to another LFS...FLUSHING IS MURDER!

Emma

Sorry to say but what do you expect from an african cichlid and a community fish? Jewel cichlids are among the most agressive cichlids I've seen next to Kenyis.

im beyond ****** off with my LFS and will NEVER return for fish,i really dont wana flush it but my new fish are here soon and i cant put it with them, ive put a post in on FS section and LFS said to ring tomorow and they may take it back,

im beyond pissed off with my LFS and will NEVER return for fish
Why? Because you made a bad stocking choice? I don't think that it is the lfs's fault...

Like I said before, get a breeding net or a larger regular fish net and put it in there for now. That will make sure that it stays away from your other community fish. Try calling other lfs's in your area as well. They may take it without a problem.

Don't ever flush live fish!

its my LFS shop as they said it will chase a fish at the most!
Yes, they say that to you, but the whole point of this forum and all the information on here is to research research research. It may be hard to resist fish when you see them in the store, especially if it is something that you've never seen before, but that resistance has to stand, because bad decisions like this occur. The LFS is not obligated to inform you on what their fish are like. That is your obligation as a fishkeeper.

Even the best fish shops and the most knowledgable owners cannot answer every question correctly. It's practically impossible, especially when you are usually dealing with people that are there to just "have a job." It's unfortunate, but it's a fact of life. All you need to do is be educated enough to make the best decisions for your tanks and disregard the bad information given to you.

Atleast you have learnt something about your LFS, I suggest looking for another one.

no offense but if you were told that your new rottweiler would only chase your Chihuahua would you still buy it?

its my LFS shop as they said it will chase a fish at the most!

well its the Fish shop owner and ill not be buying from the shops again, internet for the win!
Do you not read anything that I type? If you are still buying from the internet, the same thing will happen. Even websites like liveaquaria.com, one of the nicest places to buy fish online, still gets their information wrong. The whole point of this post, it seems, is to research before buying. Let's hope that you do that for the fish you are going to buy online.

what i meant is im not returning to the shop if the owner cannot even tell me if its a agressive fish, ill use here and ebay for fish,.

if you can't find a place for the fish, and the lfs refuses a refund... then do what I did... Bag up the fish as the lfs does, bring it in, and give the fish to the employee. If they refuse a refund then say "fine... but please take the fish for it's sake." I had to do this with a female JD I bought to go with my male when he was a lot younger. He nearly killed her so had to return her. They said they didn't do returns on Mondays.... ~rollseyes~.... but I just said, fine, then just take the fish back and I'll remember this the next time I even consider your shop for a purchase.

The employee may just leave the fish there until it sufficates, but hopefully they will be concerned enough to take it to a holding tank in the back until they figure out what they will do. I mean they should be happy to take it back for free... it means this fish made them twice as much as the others of it's species.....
