Real Significance of Memorial Day

Sometime it is easier to forget than remember but for the nameless who died to make our lives better we should remember.

My grand pa was born in 1896, draft in the navy, served as mechanic on a battle class ship and came back home.

He was an incredible machinist and showed me how to build my own tools in any situation and constraint.

Peace to his soul.

And who ever gone as far, and more.

Also need to acknowledge those that have joined the military to avoid jail and made the most of it and changed their life for the better.

I'm a U.S. Navy vet that lost the use of my right eye and don't think of Memorial Day as just for those that died or were injured but as remembrance for all that gave up some years of their life to keep our country's principles going.

I also do not think of Memorial Day as strictly in remembrance of U.S. soldiers but for all that sacrificed world wide.

Different countries have different commemorative days - for us it's November 11.

The UK is 11 November as well, with a minute's silence held at 11 am - the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Here it's called Remembrance Day and paper poppies are sold and worn the days before. Poppies were common flowers in the battlefields of World War 1.
