Hi Everybody,

I'm ready to move from my small 10 gallon tank to a 30 gallon tank. I am getting ready to redo my office and want to get the tank so that I can fit it in while I'm reorganizing. Was wondering what kind of tanks different people have and what they like, don't like about them. Also, best filter and any other accessories you think are important that I should know about. I'm probably not going to set it up right away, but want to buy it and then slowly buy the accessories. Once I've got it all I'll move my existing tank over.

Those of you that have a corner tank, do you like it? I love the big bowed front, but wonder about cleaning and seeing all the fish (doing head counts), that sort of thing.

Not sure what other equipment I need for that size tank. Right now all I have is a filter, heater, and of course a hood with light. What else do I need for that size tank.

Will be keeping my small 10 gallon as a hospital tank.

Thanks,

Debra

I have always heard that a corner tank doesnt provide the maximum ammount of space or something like that, just becuase of how its shaped, and i could see only of my fish with its head wedged in the corner between the bow side and the straight side. This is just what ive heard, though so you should do some more research on them.

Corner tanks are nice I think, and the way you can set up the tank with rocks and territories is really cool.

You should be able to see all the fish depending on how you have the caves a nd rocks set up.

Though fish that like large territories could be a bother in a tank that size and shape.

You could just get a larger rectangle tank for the same ammount of money, that's what I would do, unless you are needing to do it this way because of space.

Space is definitely a consideration and I think 30 gal is about as big as I am going to be able to go in that particular room. I'm not sold on a corner tank. I just thought they looked interesting. Also, need help with anything else I'm going to need besides a heater and filter (I know I'll have to get bigger ones for that size tank).

Good thinking :good:

I've never had a corner tank, so probably not the best person to give a valid view. However I can tell you why I don't like them and reason for never having one :)

1) 30 Gallons won't be as much of an issue, but it's much harder and akwards to clean the back of the tank (where the filter sits) due the the shape.
2) Some bow fronts cause distortion
3) Fish have much more room to "stretch" their fins in a rectangular tank thank a corner tank. Slow moving small fish will be ok, but there's still "less space" - compared to say a 20 gallon long (in my opinion).

Not sure about filter brands in the US so can't really help you there.

What do you consider a fast fish that has to have a long tank so they can stretch their fins? Right now I have dwarf platys, corys and white skirt tetras. The tetras seem like they would like more space to zoom around in, but the others seem perfectly content.

Danios especially. And some Rainbowfish - many others too, but these spring to mind. It just depends on how active the fish are - some just cruise around (kinda taking in the scenic view) and some like to cruise in the fast lane  So observe the fish in the shop and evaluate.
But sounds like your fish would do just fine.
