Hey Big Fish.
Sorry to hear of your problems.
I would send the store manager a copy of your E-Mail , and if it is a chain store, a copy to his boss.
If I were the boss, I would have to have a talk with an employee, who wasted a half hour argueing with a customer, alienateing him and possibly other customers, and all his friends, over a couple of buck fish.
Our best LFS here have a return policy, any fish dies within 2 weeks. return body of fish with a sample of water. ONE TIME PER CUSTOMER !!!
They plan to refund or repalce,but if your water is the problem, they can help you correct it. Sounds reasonable.
As for me personaly, when I buy a fish , it is my fish,when I pay for it. If it was healthy in the LFS tank, then dies in my tank, it's my fault. If it dosen't get along, it's my fault.
A couple of weks ago i bought 4 Kuhlie loaches, from a healthy tank, within two weeks they all died. All my other fish were fine, all the LFS fish were still fine. My water tested OK. LFS offered refund. Nope , my fish , my fault.
