hope you enjoyed, havent posted in a while :)

nice fishies, what size/age are they both? look reasonably young to me, if it's just the two cichlids in the tank watch out as they get older and reach sexual maturity....... there may be trouble ahead :/

in the tank i have 2 bn plecos that do a great job, a bichir *forget what kind*, and just the oscar and jd

why will there be trouble ahead?

the tank is a 120gallon us- the oscar is about 7-8 inches and the jack is about 4-5 inches

thanks for all the comments :D

while it's a big tank you've got two aggressive fish and no dithers with them.

when they get to around 1.5 - 2 years old and hit sexual maturity it's likely to be an out and out war between them and with no other dithers to distract them the weaker will get killed off.

as always with cichlids nothing is guaranteed but to my mind it's risky to have just those two together.

i'd put in a shoal of SD's or bala sharks as dithers and choose another 2/3 equally aggressive cichlids, then it will be an aggressive tank but no one fish should be singled out for bullying.

That may not be the case if both, or either of them is a female. They aren't as aggressive as us neandothol men  . I know thats not spelt right.

IMO some silver sharks would look great in there.

If they arn't already fighting, then you might be ok with the aggression issue. Im not sure if the O is a male/female, but the jd is female (and has begun to show her coloration much more since the last pics :good: Very beautiful) Just keep an eye on them as the jd is a little dark and may be a little threatened by the o and could turn on it one day.

Dithers would be a great idea. If you get some though, make sure they are big enough to not become snacks for your already quite large cichlids. It may be hard to find some close to full-grown silver dollars but if you look around at your lfs' then you should be able to find some good sized bala's. It seems there are always bala's around because when they get to 5 or 6 inches in the peoples 20G tank, they finally smarten up and realize that they can't house the fish.
