hello my fishi friends i am still new to the fish keeping world but loveing it,
any way i have just found my 3 red cherry shrimp dead i have only had them about 2 weeks i had my water checked
at 2 lfs and all parameters were good (i have just orders a master test kit so will pose stats asap) but i have a 15 gal tank with 2 guppys and 10 neons they are all doing good it has lots of real plants but the rcs have just died i have just done a water change about 10% and the next day thay were all dead i use prime as a declorenator i did not over dose just cant put my finger on it i have read that there could be copper in my tap water and it is lethal to shrimp.
any help plase
thanks john

its been running about 4 months and its about 15 gal i have had no probs with it just the cherrys.
neons are very active also the guppys eating fine very good colours look very healthy :shifty:
just cant understand why they have died i really liked them

also my ph is about 6.8 as soon as i get my test kit ill put them on but i had it teasted by my lfs and all was good

amm/0
nitr/0
nitrate/10
ph/ 6.8

the only thing i did after addind the shrimp is a 10% water change with prime added

Hmm, lots of real plants. Is there any chance they could have a pesticide on them? Often companies dip their plants prior to sending them out to get rid of things like pest snails. You should always give them a good rinse in the sink before putting them in a tank. Chances are they would have been affected earlier though.

Alternatively, some of the older boilers + pipes are made of copper (like you said), so if you use hot water out of a tank it can have traces of copper in it. Copper really is a killer to inverts, with shrimp often being the most affected (again like you said). Can you get your LFS to test for copper? If they can then take 2 vials. 1 with water from the hot tap and one with water from the cold tap.

If you have copper in the water it may well only be from the hot tap. Meaning you can use cold water and a kettle to do your water changes in future.

yeah i have a new combi boiler but the inlet water pipes are copper i will take them to the lfs like you said and get them to test it thanks for the replys mate
