Fish Fanatic
Hi everyone, I was hoping someone could help me with a pH rise in our tank. Two of our fish died unexpectedly today, so the first thing I did was test the water. The readings were
Ammonia 0 ppm
NitrIte 0 ppm
NitrAte 20 ppm
pH 8.2
We tested this tank last week and the pH reading was 7.6 - Out tap water, and the water in our other tank is 7.6 as well so i'm guessing this is where the problem lies. It must be due to a new rock we added, which is a red coloured lava rock. I read a pinned article on this forum about rocks which didn't mention anything about lava rock causing pH to rise but that is the only thing that has changed - no other new fish or decorations. I'm worried that our other fish will die due to this rapid rise and wondered what I can do. If i just take the rock out and do a big water change won't that be just as bad - changing the pH back down to 7.6 so rapidly. Any advice would be great, thanks.
