Hi all,

I was wondering if it was possible to have a Rams species tank? Will a tankful of Rams get along will with each other?

Also, is it possible to mix the different flavours of Rams (GBR, Bolivian, Golden, etc) together in the same tank?

Tank I'm thinking about is a 240L and will be reasonably planted.

Blue and gold rams are the same fish, so are electric blue ie. mikrogeophagus ramirezi. Bolivian rams are different, mikrogeophagus altispinosus.

They should all get along fine imo.

From what I hear only problem would be when they are breeding and become territorial. Oh also Blues like warmer water then bolivians.

Does that mean that I can't have Bolivians and Blues together? Or do the temperature ranges over lap?

keeping them together isnt a good idea

bolivians prefer the 24-28 bracket whereas the german blue ram prefers 28-32 oC

Lol so keep them in 28C ??

Yes, they should be fine kept together. This argument just came up.

Just keep an eye and make sure the Bolivians aren't pushing around the GBRs. This would be the only thing I would slightly worried about.

Yeah and neon tetras ideal temp. would be like 24C. And peppered catfish and bristlenose would be around 22C. When you have a community tank, you compromise.

compromises cant be made with these fish...rams are one of the most sensitive species now due to czechs messing around with them, the only way you can compromise is with a wild caught pair.

compromises can be made with bread and butter species because theyre a lot hardier.

Humm... So Bolivians are better suited to a community style tank?

I know this it's the right section for this question but what are the temp ranges for most commonly available shrimp? I want to put some shrimp into the planted tank but if they won't like the higher temps I may need to rethink my plan!

bolivian rams suite community tanks a lot better whereas german blue rams should be kept in a tank with carefully selected tank mates.

99% of shrimp are actually coldwater/subtropical but can cope well up into the lower 30's

german rams are at optimum at 30oC which i should have pointed out, 28 is the bare minimum and still a bit low IMO

Agreed Truck!

Plus the Bolivians would most likley pick on the smaller GBR's

Humm... As I was planning to put them in a planted tank, I don't think that the plant would appreciate such a high temp...
