Can someone tell me what the Rams do when they are preparing to spawn
Do they just go for it like neons - or is there some preperation like gouramis (not that rams build a bubble nest i know that but do they prepare a place to lay)

How does their behaviour change prior to spawning

i have German rams (golden balloon type) and Bolivian rams

Thanks Sarahx

I'm very new to GBRs, but mine began digging in the sand with their bodies prior to laying eggs. I've also heard they will lay eggs on a flat surface. Here's my post which also includes a video of them. :)

thanks hun good vid :good:

You are welcome. :) Unfortunately they ate their eggs within 24 hours, but that seems to be normal for 'new' parents. After a few tries it seems like they'll get it right!

Not sure if you caught this video in the post, but this was after most of the eggs had been laid.

I'm thinking if mine pair up and spawn to remove half the eggs to and attempt to raise the fry myself and leave the parents with the other half
or remove the male and the eggs to a seperate tank

just wondering what would be best hmmmmmm

best would probably be to leave the eggs with the parents if possible

the new parents will most definitely eat the first few batches but they will get the hang of it eventually and generally are good parents

although i remove mine to a bare bottom 10 gal then add methyl blue and an airstone i still lose some to egg fungus then again the ones that hatch won't be eaten or sucked into my filter
