Hi guys, i have 2 german blue rams in my community tank and i think they've started to breed.

The reason for this is that they are very close all the time and he is protective of her.
A little while ago i spotted them starting to chase other fish around which was a little odd. i then spotted them pecking a specific gravel spot a lot as if cleaning it. As well as this they defend it heavily and are not leaving the area other than to fend off other fish including my shark and angels, which is no small task. So what i'm wandering is whether anyone else had bred these rams and whether i need to do anything for them, especially nutritionally. thanks

yep it sounds like their breeding alright. as for diet feed them a range of foods such as flake, frozen blood worm, live foods as usual. if your going to me separating the young as many people would advise feed them a powdered food for fry such as tetra min (i think) and then move them on to baby brine shrimp along with the powdered food. if you are going to be seperating them id advise that you wait until their free swing as the perants are protective of them...for a few days...if you are sepatating dont use a breeding net as the shark will manage to make a hole in the side and the babys will escape and get eaten, is iv found out.

Ah, so glad someone replied as i was beginning to give up hope.
Thanks for the info but they seem to have stopped now, they start up again on accassional nights to pick a spot and it becomes theirs but i think that she may have layed eggs and they may have been eaten in the night cos she got slimmer and there were no eggs in the morning:(

For the past few days my angelfish have been diplaying the exact same behaviour. Apparently eggs have no escape from snails though. I'm making sure to build a protective area for them though. An easy to defend fort.
My tanks temp is naturally very high. So i can't help it being a breeding machine :)

what iv found with angels is that they tend to eat the eggs after laying, if not imediately they will do so after being provoked.this is my experience and i hope your angels are better parents.

well they seemed to be very protective of the eggs, even trying to peck the snail off the wall.
