I am planning a 285 litre tank (500 x 500 x 1265 mm) and I'd like to stock it with
6 discus
6 GBRs (I already have 2 in another tank which will be moved into this one)
1 bristlenose (it is with the 2 rams)
10 adolfo's corys (have 4 with the 2 rams)
15 cardinals or rummynoses (maybe 20)

The tank will be quite heavily planted, with black fine gravel (not sand) and a small rockery of green slate with caves and hidey-holes, and a largish piece of wood.

Will discus and rams coexist peacefully in that tank or is it "overchclided"?
Would that stocking work?
If not what would you change?

They will all do fine together in a tank that size. Seems like a good stock list to me amigo :good:

Best of luck and look forward to see some pics of the progress :hyper:

they can co exist fine. I no alot of people wont agree with me but i truly believe a 4fer is to small for discus as they really can reach quite a decent size. i always think they look crammed in

I'll be ordering it this weekend, then I'll have to fill it, plant it, and slowly populate it. Fortunately I have a matured filter...
I will take pictures.

Since we're on it, cardinals or rummynoses?
I love the cardinals' colours, but I also want the fish to shoal tight...

Cant go wrong with either or tbh

But i'm a lover of cardinals :good:

As for the size.... 285ltr, would this be 4ft or 5ft?

I have a 200ltr 4ft tank i keep my discus in. I think as long as you dont get like 10 of them, its ok.

All mine are still youngsters right enough but once they get bigger i can start looking at bigger tanks hehe

It's a wee over 4 feet, 49.7 inches.

I wish the cardinals would shoal like rummynoses do!

Oh, well... I have some time to decide...

hey i have 240l tank, i already have 2 bristlenose plecs, 4 corys, but im planing on doing almost the same as you, im going to add a 3d background and external filter, 1000l/h add more corys and get 6 discus, hopefuly end up with a breeding pair because when i get my own house im buying a 500l tank and would like more discus,

I love your stocking idea!

My vote goes to the rummies, they would look stunning against your darker substrate! They are peaceful fish and their red noses also function as a visual alarm should something not be quite right in your tank, as they would go very pale.

Rummies it is then! ;)

Defo go with rummies I have 25 in my tank and they shoal in tight formation :good: as I was informed on this forum that temp for GBRs is 28c min and the rummies can take the high temps.

Been thinking along the lines of similar stocking myself for a while currently got rams, apisto's, sterbia corys and rummies

Keep us updated

Ian

I have decided to upgrade from 285 to 330 litres, but will keep the same stocking plan.
The order for the tank will go out as soon as they have in stock all the other bits and pieces that I want (hopefully no later than Friday).
