I was planning a Biotope in a 55 gallon tank for South American fish, and my origional plan was to have just one pair of german blue rams in the tank as a centerpiece fish. The thread about this is in the Tropicl Chit Chat section. Anyways, someone suggested that i have a pair of Apistos as well, so i revised my plan so it looked like this:

+Schooling Fish
--Cardinal Tetras- 12
--Rummynose Tetras- 12
--Tube Mouthed Pencil Fish- 8
+Bottom Feeders
--False Julii Cory Cat- 4
--Sterbas Cory Cat- 4
+Centerpiece Fish
--Pair of German Blue Rams
--Trio of either Apistogramma Agassizi or Apistogramma Cacatuoides

Do you think i could have one pair of German Blue Rams, and a trio or pair of the apistos? Basically, i just want a few bright, pretty, centerpiece community fish that wont attack eachother.

Thanks for your help :)

Yes it should be fine, just give the apistos plenty of caves. Cacatuoides like to have serveral females per male not sure about others. As for the Cories I would get 8 of one type as they prefer to be in groups.

i've cacatuoides with rams and they're fine. From my research I think you need to have 2/3 females for every male... although I was told yest this is wrong but only by 1 person... so who knows!!! I have 5, 2 males and 3 females and they all seem to get along fine :)

I was told the Corys would school together, maybe im wrong. Also, i intend on putting alot of caves and plants in the tank, so they should be fine. How many pairs of Rams and Trios (i guess) of Apistos do you think would be a safe number to have in the tank? I dont want to overstock it, but I dont want it to look empty either.

Thanks for your replys :)

I've read that they prefer to be in with their own kind, but hey I could wrong, I've not tried it myself.

I would get 8 Apistos, 2 males and 6 females, and maybe 2 Rams. Having said that I prefer Apistos lol. You don't really need to worry about over stocking it with the fish you suggest.
