This picture is a really good one of my male ram. You can see his dorsal fin is up and you can see his extended rays on the front. You can also see how his anal fin is pointed (will put female pics for comparison as well.)

This is my female. You can see her pink belly even tho its kinda flashed out, you can see her rounder anal fin, and you can see her shorter spikes on the dorsal fin as she has them extended. A bonus in this picture is she was spawning so you can see her ovipositor in front of her anal fin. Its a small white tube she uses to deposit her eggs.

male and female together. You can see the difference in size and colorations

male again. Pointed anal fin, extended rays on the dorsal (although these are hard to see in this picture)

another of the female again you can see shorter rays on dorsal, rounder anal fin, ovipositor and dark pink belly

last one another of the male. I hope this helps with any ram sexing confusion. Its really not that difficult if you know what to look for!! :D

Nice pictures! It appears that your rams follow another general guideline which is to look for silver specs within the black patch at the sides. If they do exist, its a female, otherwise it is a male. All of your rams "respect" this "rule"... ;)

IMO thats not really a good way to tell sex. Some fish dont even show that dark circle. I've studied a LOT of rams. The best ways to sex a ram are the ways that I listed.

Thanks for the tips - hopefully next time, I will end up with a pair as oppose to 2 males... ;)
