I have a pair of bolivian rams who just laid some eggs. I set up a 10 gal. with some media from my main tank. I let the pair lay eggs for about an hour. Then I took the rock out that she laid them on. SHould I have waited longer berfore I took the eggs from the parents? Did the male have time to fertilize them? I took them out because I noticed that the female ram was starting to eat the eggs. Should I have done this. Let me know. I have never tried to hatch fish before. I am new to this. Any information will help.

Any information will help. I would like to hatch these guys. I think I might have messed up, by seperating the eggs from the parents

i don't know about bolivian rams but with german rams they need low PH for the eggs to hatch. I think it would be the same, rams have to fan off the eggs so you need the pair in with the eggs. They clean off the eggs and then spit them out. If an egg falls off the rock one of them will get the egg and put it back on the rock. They take turns taking care of eggs. Sometimes it takes awhile for the pair to get used to and how to take care of eggs. The first batch of eggs might not make it, but if you want to try again then do so, each time they will get better in taking care of the eggs. I have hard water and was not serious about breeding my rams so I didn't worry about the PH, KH and so on.
Just found this on the web, it might help you, it sounds like bolivian rams are different when breeding than german rams
