A 30 Gallon would be fine for Rams, what else is in the tank? M.ramirezi require high temperatures (28-32oC) so think carefully before adding them, M.altispinosus should be fine in most setups.

Depends on the stock, as always.

Respectfully and strongly disagree about temperature requirements.

There is 4 neon's,2 platy's 1 betta,1 loach, 2 rainbow fish.

M.altispinosus would be much better, they're generally more hardy and more tolerable of higher mineral content, M.ramirezi does best in soft acidic conditions, also sand is essential, these fish are earth eaters.

Well i have very soft water....

In that case I'd only add M.ramirezi if you can get wild caught or from someone who has bred from a wild caught pair, after generations of inbreeding the majority of tank bred specimens are of a poor quality, which is why keeping them at the higher temperatures that they're found it in the wild is advised, lower temperatures will slow their metabolism, leaving them prone to Bacterial, Fungal and Viral infections, notably hole in the head.

You should increase those school numbers at least up to 6 before you consider adding any new species.
I had 7 they got eaten by a eel i had..
7 of each, neons, loaches and rainbows? It would still make sense to get the schools back up, especially as you don't have the eel now. There is a reason why eels are not compatible with much..

no the neon's... And there only so much i can do when i have a mother who doesn't want me spending a lot of money..... :dunno:

Spend the money on making your current fish happier then instead of getting the Rams would be my suggestion.
