Well i was pleased to see my female rainbow cichlid has layed a batch of eggs on one of my amazon sword leaves :hyper:

Thought the pair were akting a bit funny on tuesday night. Returned home from work yesterday to find the female guarding the eggs and the male chasing all the other fish around. Even the Geophagus seems scared of them and he must be twice the size of the rainbows at least

Here she is on duty :shifty: (sorry for poor photos. Camera phone lol )

Congratulations buddy.

Man I always wanted to get a pair of Rainbows when I had my new world set up. Do you have the orange color rainbows or the regular greenish ones? I cant tell from the pic.

Thanks :good:

They are the orange coloured rainbows although she went almost all black when she was about to lay the eggs. Facinating fish. Not bad as she was a freeby from a friend. Bought her a male three weeks ago and they have paired nicely.

Just hope these one last

NICE!!!!!!!!!!! They arent to rare around here, they sell for about $4 dollars( E 2)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep up with the pic's of their growth/development!

Again not the greatest of pics but Saturday morning saw the wee fry hatching from the eggs. They spend most of their time at the roots of the amazon sword. The Rainbows are still taking excellent care of them letting nothing near them.

Here is a couple of wee pics i took of them huddled together

Well they seem to be doing well. Still quite a few there. Free swimming and exploring round the tank. Seen a few being eaten so far but hopefully most of them will survive

Here are a couple of wee vids i took of them :hyper:

Cool. Not really sure yet. A couple of friends are going to take a couple each but the rest will probably go to my local fish store if he's interested

Mine were breeding so often (2-3 times a week between them), I struggled to give them away, ended up using most of them as feeders.

Well im down to six fry now  looks like most of them are being eaten when the light is off.

Might try and put them in my other tank. I set up a small 2ft tank for the rainbows to breed peacefully in. Had it cycling for a few weeks now so i'll test the water today and scoop out the remaining fry with the two adults

This is gonna be amusing as the male goes for me when i feed the fry
