I have two Rainbowfish, they look depressed. I want to get 4 more but my parents won't let me get some more till my birthday in two months, will they survive and stay healthy till my birthday?

Many say, 'no its cruel, they're schooling fish'. But I have a Boesemani and a Blue Rainbowfish together and they're perfectly happy with just the 2 of them :) so don't worry.

Hmmm...

While it may not be 'cruel' exactly, they are shoaling fish and will be suffering a constant low level of stress from being in a pair.

Please don't take this too badly, RedTail, as I know how difficult it is to be a young fishkeeper, but this will affect their immune system and could leave them open to all sorts of diseases and infections.

Could you not ask, very nicely, for an advance on your birthday money? Any jobs/chores you could do perhaps?

I think to sum it up, there will be no major short term problems to only having two, but it is best to have a few more of them soon :) I agree with fluttermouth, get a few jobs done to get them early.

I was able to talk them into getting me another female, the 2 originals seem to be a little happier now. Maybe I can do some chores to get some more.
