ive had my rainbow shark for over a week now and usually, like most, he hides most of the day. today, however is is in the upper back corner of my tank. earlier my algae eater was over there for a while. im wondering if maybe there is an algae buildup over there since rainbow sharks like to eat algae. i was just checking to see if this is ntohing to worry about or if i should do something.
thanks
here is a picture:.

From the picture it looks like he might be gasping at the surface. *shrugs* Might your tank be low in O2?

shouldnt be. i changed out some water a couple days ago and it has a bubbler. a few mins ago he left the corner and swam around for a few mins, hung out in his usual spots for a couple seconds and went back to the corner. i also have a bala shark, who seems normal

Its a red-tail shark not a rainbow

A rainbow shark is the albino from of the red fin shark

Unless they name em different where you are?, Anyway have you got any other sharks in the tank (bar the bala)

Oh and how big a tank has the bala shark should be keep with tank mates and grows to over a foot..

the Rainbow shark is in fact a black shark with a red tail. as opposed to a red fin shark, which has red tail and fins!!! both are sold in the albino form!! in the uk anyway. though i have seen rainbows with blue tails.

the rainbows here are black with all red fins.. the red tails only have a red tail fin...ive also seen albino rainbows that are white with all red fins....
today i got them a new tank (10gallon) the old one was 2.5 (much too small)... brand new filter, thermometer, couple plants, i used the same gravel and a lava rock i had to leave some of the bacteria in. they seem great now. i think the tank was just much too small and dirty.

Erm.... You had a 2.5 gal now you got a 10gal

And you have a Bala Shark (Silver shark just incase the naming different) in it

That fish grows WAY to big for a 10gal

Also have you transfered the old filter to new tank?

i bought it as small as you can..right now its only about 2 inches and itll probly take a while to get to the full 10 (if it even gets that big) once it hits 5 ill probly get a large one for it, maybe get another bala and have a big tank just for them and keep smaller fish in the 10. but ive got a little while before he'll get that big...and the 2.5 gallon didnt have a filter..it was just a temp tank that had a heater, bubbler, and a light...i got the 10gal as a kit

this topic is confusing.
right. a rainbow shark is black with all red fins.
a red tailed black shark acctually has just a red tail.
ive never seen a black shark with blue fins or what ever i think i read.
the water in the pic does look a little de-oxidised. also a little cloudy.
this could be a reason why the red tailed shark (which is what you have) is in the corner.
the reason that your bala shark seems fine is that its one of those lucky fish that can stand low oxygen levels.
try putting your air pump outlet (or airstone what ever you use) infront of the filter outlet. this will make more oxygen circle your tank. or another way is to have your filter outlet slightly above the water level causing agitation on the surface which then makes more oxygen circle your tank.

what other fish are in the tank?

you guys cant really see from the picture, but its a rainbow...all the fins are red not just the tail..heres the full view....just click on it

also this topic can probly be closed now because problems solve...got a new (bigger) tank and the fish are fine

Oh yes you can see its a rainbow shark now, But in the first post lil pic it does look like a red-tail,
