I saw a piece of carved rainbow rock today - golden brown colour with white layers through it. The texture seems a bit loose, as I ended up with golden powder on my hand when I picked it up.

Question is - will this do anything chemically to my water, if I get it? -_- Someone told me it might raise the hardness and my local water is fairly soft with fish to suit.

I've seen this and it seems to me to be a factory made sandstone (created by pressing sand into a mould at great pressure)

Personally I'd not have it in any of my tanks.

I have sand in my tank as substrate - would having this "rock" make particular problems?

ive got a Juwel Rio 180 with sand substrait and rainbow rocks, aslo heavily planted, with rainbow fish and 10 zebra danios. The rainbow rock looks awsome when wet and just needs turning over every couple of weeks to keep the faces of the rock looking lush and clean. Ive not had any problems with my water parameters involving the rainbow rock and i give it a thumbs up! will post pics once ive borrowed a camera! ;)

Thanks folks - a.i.m, I'll look forward to seeing your pics! :D

Guess it's true what they say - always different opinions, so I guess I'll have to "research, research, research!!" :p
