poor little jack...his companion passed away, and now he has been what i believe to be bullied to death. One weekend i came home to find my lyretail molly looking as if he got a buzz cut! i watched him a bit more, and found that shadow kept chasing him around the tank, which was odd since they were both males, the only mollies in the tank. I decided once i had more room i would move him to the tank at my other house, but when i came this weekend he wasn't swimming right at all. The upper part of his body was right up against the surface and his tail at about a 30 degree angle. Since i recently got more room in one of my tanks, i was going to move him there today with my three females, but sadly i found him dead when i woke up. I knew he was going to go soon, but i feel so bad because i had no idea how he died. He also got this really dark brown spot on his head, which looked very bizzare. any ideas on his death?

him before bulling^

Awww, I'm sorry to hear that! He was very pretty. :( RIP Jack.

As for ideas to death...the bullying could have stressed him out very much, and combining that with the moves may have just been too much stress for him. You say his tail was at an angle...did his spine appear to be bent? He might have had Fish TB then. There are lots of possible reasons why he may have died, but I'm betting stress had a impact. What are your water params? And you can you describe the brown mark a little more? :)

I thought his spine was bent, but i could'ny see anything that looked bent other than his tail. I cant figre out the water params right now since i ran out the other day of the strips, and i actually thing the brown sopt he had origionally, i just didn't notice. it was like a band from each eye and then went up and down his face to his nose and to the top of his head :/ I'm thinking the water stats might have something to do with it, just have an odd feeling.

The brown spot might have just been coloring then. :)

I'd definitely get the water stats tested as soon as possible. You should probably do a 25% water change just to be safe now. Can you take your water to your LFS to have them test it? Most will do it for you...

Here's some info on TB, so you can see if any of the symptoms applied to him: http://www.fishpalace.org/Disease.html#TB

doesn't really sound like him, he was eating fine and all that and his stomach was the same as ever. something i noticed though was that he was always at the top, with the top part of him in the surface on the water.

Could he possibly have had swimbladder? Maybe dropsy? Was he just floating? You might want to look through that site I gave you for symptoms that he had. Keep in mind, fish usually don't have all the symptoms listed.

he wasn't fat like in dropsy, and swimbladder sounds like the complete opposite of what he had. I'm starting to think it was just stress, since i can't find any evidence of him having any disease other than the ripped fins :/
