hey guys, as some of u know i rasie guppy fry. iv got a collection of my last 3-4 batches and i lose them like crazy, its so hard to keep them alive, iv only got 1 graduate to the big tank outa 100 plus fish -_- im gunna continue with wat iv got left and c wat i can do with them but any more batches are gunna just stay in the 10g with the male and female. its very well planted i think some might survive there. my problem was keeping them all in a 1g and obviously it doesn't work out that way. im going to be buying a 5g because i may be starteing a betta spawn this winter. after wards ill take back up the guppy fry raiseing but for now im putting it to a rest. im loseing my mind trying to keep them alive so i think its time to give it a rest.

peace out,

guppydude

Oh dear...thats sad to hear.
I never lost a baby yet...but then I have them in a bare bottom tank 8.5UK gallon with a few plastic plats and pots for cover. They share it with my apple snails that do a good job of keeping the place free from rotten food. I hoover the bottom and do a 20% water change everyday :) . I picked all this up reading the forums on here..and it really works. I feed 4 times a day and at 3 weeks old they are over 1cm long
I think with fry its all about conditions..they need warmer water and very clean water specs. Its all that poo  .. so much poo  will kill em off in no time if you don't keep a close eye on it.

Hope your remaining batches make it OK

WOW. 20% everyday? Goodness. Will doing my regular water changes be alright if I only have a few fry in a breeder net in a 55 gallon tank? I really don't have the room for a fry tank right now.

Well i almost would say yes you would be better off with the 10 gal. b/c having the parents in there it means only the quickest and strongest fry will survive :flex:

I have heard that fry is hard to keep alive....I have about 300 fry in all...Mollies, Platies, Swords and Guppies...I have never lost a baby that was not born dead....I think there easier to maintain than the adults...I let the momma have them in the main tank, I get what I can find out...I do this to insure no stress before having them..I will save 20 or sometimes less...I have 1 30 gal and 2 40 gal tanks...1 is new born fry, then move to the adolecent tank the teenager tank then main tank...I sell most to the lfs when they reach the teenager tank. I hope u do try again after all is calmed down..good luck

I'm sorry you've had such bad luck :( It must be very frusterating. Hopefully you'll get things sorted out!! (And good luck with your bettas too!!)

 I used to have the same problem GuppyDude! I would have dozens of fry in a breeder net and they never survived. I don't know what I did or changed, but one of my guppies delivered her fry a few months back and they all survived! Now, I rarely lost any fry.

What are you feeding them? Good luck!

I try not to have guppy fry but I couldn't kill em if I tried  They live through everything. I do have a fry tank that I put the fry in when I do a gravel clean cuz I don't know what else to do with them and I'd feel bad throwing them back in with the adults and I have to say that I pay little attention to my fry tank. One suggestion...try lowering the temp. I don't have a heater on my fry tank and I've heard that lower temps will help their immune system. maybe that's why they are fairing well.

well ill set up a new 5g tank for guppy fry this spring, with a bigger tank i should have better luck.

thanx for all your suggestions

I kept 72 fry in a 10 gallon with 11 adults (mostly guppies a few platys and 2 mollies) with no problems other than daily water changes. I am up to 50 gallon tank now and all fry are still alive with adults. I kept my tanks plantes wityh live and plastic plants and also some decorations with small tunnels and different size rocks for the fry to hide. the fry are fast and can gwet away if they feel threatened( the ones who don't are probably ill or deformed). Anyway have plants on the bottom of the tank as well as floating and you should be ok.

well im sure if i just let them go for now on ill get some survivers but i dont theing theres any way all of them will -_- im looking at my tank and the mouth on my female and theres juts no way man
