I recently (2 days ago) bought a Dalmation Molly from Petsmart, and this morning, I happened to fish out 17 live and well fry into a breeder net for the time being. I also started to notice little white spots on my Rasboras and they are flashing!! I have yet to find an Ich treatment safe for fry, and since I live in a dorm room with a 10 gal, I have no quarantine or fry tank! I can buy a small tank with a filter (no bigger than a 2 gal or I will get in trouble with the dorm office), but I don't know what to do as to "cycling" the tank because I am nervous to take anything out of my 10 gal filter, water, or gravel because I think there may be ich. I either risk them dying from ich treatment or an uncycled tank... HELP!!!

Oh Uh, I have the same problem, except my fish is pregnant and going to have fry anyday now... I'm in the same boat as you.. Hopefully someone can help us out!

I think you should buy a new breeder that doesn't have a direct water supply from the tank. Kind of like the one in this picture of my tank.

It is basically it's own little box. Then you can buy your ich meds for the adult fish and the fry aren't harmed!

hey first off, congratulations on the fry!
and second off all have you tried salt in your aquarium? now i dont know if this will harm the fry [i dont think so, but you never know] or if your fish has a low tolerance to it, but you can only research it!

but like sims3dude said hopefully someone with more knowledge will come along!

but in the meantime look it up

hope it helps a little

ps HCpetraitis idea sounds better, i didnt know you could do that! wow learn something new everyday...

i have mollie fry in my tank and i am on my second dose (full dose) of interpet no 6 for ich and fry are fine

Molly fry will have no problem at all following a salt treatment for ich. Common mollies, like most of us have, can tolerate salt all the way up to the concentration in a reef tank so the bit needed for ich will not cause them any problems at all. There is a very informative article at the skeptical aquarist that can be reached by using the link in my signature area called Ich Info. The fry and adults all need to be treated or the fry are likely to die because they have very little reserves to draw on. The parasites that cause ich don't change size just because their host is small.

I completely agree with OldMan47. The babies will be fine with the meds in their habitat.
