any recommendations?
i use the tetratec one but they are noisier than my 2 external filters.
thanks.

My Hagen pump is 1000000000000% louder as my external filter.

I'd recommend screwing a pump to wood to absorb the vibrations. My Pump had a hole for a screw on it. I have to turn mine off at night though because it's in my room.

I got one that came with my 1 gallon tank that says "Aqua Expert 600." Definitely not brand name. If you set it on a flat surface, it makes a terrible noise. However, setting it on a sock or cloth quiets it immensely. So, I recommend wrapping your pump in something soft to mute it. :)

I got some of that felt that you put on the bottom of your furniture to stop it scratching your laminate flooring. Works a treat! Gra :good:

I can second the thoughts on Renas. I have 4 of them and they are dead silent. You can't even hear them when you're standing beside the tank.

Rena's are pretty good. Not as quiet as I'd like but they don't overpower the sound if virtually anything else is making a noise.

Hi,

I'm sorry if you think I'm stealing your thread, but I didn't think there was much point starting a new one as my question was related.

I'm thinking of adding an air diffuser to my Juwel power head. Will this benefit the fish at all, more aeration or enjoyment, or is it just for aesthetics?

Andy :)

I've had a Rena Air 400 running for at least 5 years now and it's pretty quiet :good: . My vote goes for rena too.

You mean a venturi? Mainly for aesthetics, aeration effects are minimal :good: . A better effect would be created by putting the filter outlet above the water to create surface agitation.

Hi

I have a lot of movement of surface water due to the power head outlet being at a 45o angle a few inches below the surface, but I don't want to break the water surface as that will mean noise. Is movement of the water surface enough, or does the water surface need to be broken?

Andy : )

i've got the juwel air difuser in my rio 180 it seem to put plenty of air into the water. It can create surface agitation depending how much you adjust the air intake and how you set it up. Anyway the fish see to like it also as it has a smaller nossle on it so it makes a stronger current in the water too

Its only £6 so i thought i would test it out seem to work for me

The quietest air pump is one mounted in another room with airline running into the room the tank is in. My large air pump that runs a skimmer is mounted in the loft and the airline comes down into the bedroom, as a result I can't heear it at all.

Never heard of anyone doing that before, nice idea

The downside is an airpump powerful enough to push the air that distance and still be effective.
