My daughter has a betta in her bedroom but the filter that came with the tank is too noisy and keeping her awake. Can anyone recommend a small quiet filter that or a quiet pump for a sponge filter that will be more suitable?

most air pumps will have a certain drone to them, almost impossible to see a 0 noise model. If you find one post it as I would like one.
Possibly if the tank is large enough a HOB and keep the water high enough to minimize splash.

I'm afraid however that silent is never going to happen though.

I know that I'm not going to find a filter that's silent but I'm sitting downstairs at the moment and can hear the filter in her bedroom but can't hear the fluval filter that's in the tank next to the sofa in the same room as me. I can hear it in my bedroom which is 2 rooms away from hers. That's how loud the one she's got is. Just looking for an air pump or filter that's not going to be so loud it keeps the whole house awake.
I think a sponge filter is going to be the best for her tank so just need to choose a suitable pump for a 20l tank.

If it was a bigger tank I would suggest eheim external filter but 20L is way to small for that, a hang on filter might be the best way forward, you would have to make sure the water is always topped up so there's no splash noise but I have got one running on a 30L that is almost silent, Here is the filter in referring to.

You can check out the reviews of this filter on YouTube just search all pond solutions hang on filter. But as moby-krib said you won't get a silent filter by all means.

Id probably go with a sponge filter myself as i find the sound of the bubbles relaxing opposed to water agitation however each to their own.
Why dont you have a look on e-bay, etc then just search the pumps/filter you interested in, into Google and see what reviews they have as thats what i do and touch wood all seems ok so far!!

I was going to suggest a sponge filter to but the air pump and bubbles are abit loud I find, but this is another option.

You can get adjustable air pumps which may be worth a look so it can be turned down during the night and back up during the day!!!

Have a look at the Dennerle corner 'Eckfilter'. It's triangular in shape so doesn't take up much space, has adjustable flow and is nice and quiet. I have three in my bedroom with only the faintest of hums.
