Hi Everyone

Can someone tell me how long I would need to leave media/spare filter in an established tank to clone it sufficently for use in a hospital tank?

I have a dwarf gourami that has had a red sore appear on the side and need to isolate and treat so I can hopefully protect the other two in the tank (serve me right for saying earlier today that I had had them without problems).

I have an interpet PF2 which uses sponge inserts in my main tank and a cotton wool type air powered for the hospital tank.

I would be taking water from the main tank to fill the hospital tank

Cheers

Jon

Hi jonp :)

Cloning is just about moving bacteria from one place to another.

In an emergency you can cut a piece of the sponge off your big filter and put it right into your small one. Fill any extra space with filter floss or other media. If it is an amount proportionate to the amount of fish waste you expect it to process, it will be ready to go immediately. Then replace what you have taken out of your old filter with some new media.

Hi Inchworm

Thanks for that - have done just that and transferred the fish across.

Cheers
