Quickest And Safest Way To Cycle

I would wait a month AFTER the tank is done cycleing to add the pandas, they really are delicate and die pretty easy.

on the fishless cycle thing that is pinned says once the ammonia goes down to 0 is 10-12 hours can add a whole stock of fish

NO. it says this
When the ammonia drops back to about near zero (usually takes about a week), add enough to raise it back to about 3 to 4 ppm and begin testing the nitrite daily. and then
The nitrite spike will generally take about twice as long to drop to zero as did the ammonia spike.

So if the ammonia spike takes 1 week to fall to 0 the nitrIte spike will take another 2 weeks on top of that, and then you do it for another week to really make sure it's completely cycled.

Once the bacteria are able to process 4 or 5 ppm of ammonia back to zero ammonia and nitrite in about 10 to 12 hours. You are officially cycled.

This is what you keep mentioning. What it's saying is that AFTER the three weeks or so of cycling, the ammonia and nitrite should drop to zero overnight REGULARLY ( as in every night ) only when that happens, can you do a big water change to get rid of the nitrAtes, and THEN you can add 1-2 fish per week.

haha well thing is i get £10 a week so i gotta wait two week which adds £20 to my money then ill have around 140 and my mum owes 7 that be around 147 the tank £80 on the sale at one place and £100 with £10 of free fish at another but in two weeks the one on sale may have gone ill buy that cycle it which takes around 4 weeks that £40 then i can buy all the decos and fish works out good btw my gravel is quite big around 1cm per gravel peice is that too big for panda cory should i put abit of sand in the tank so the bottom is gravel and sand covering the bottom and should i put more gravel in for the cory pandas? so many quiestions

u guys are helping me alot thanks guys when i buy the tank and put the water in ill get someone to guide me through haha

No probs :good: But please dont add corys. They need a mature tank. I dont think a tank can be classed as mature until its been up and running at least 6 months. Plus, corys prefer fast moving currents and a slightly cooler temp than bettas.

the tank im planning to get http://aquatic-store.co.uk/tropical/view/16 planning on 7 or 8bettas n 6 or 7 pandas

I got my females in that tank :good: Although i removed the filter thats fitted and replaced it with a Fluval 3 internal filter. In that tank, if you forget about the corys, you could have 8 or 9 females. I've had 10 in mine and found that they were better behaved in a bigger group. Also got 3 Oto's and a Yoyo loach in with them.

y u swap filter and should i put two filter in? that would help alot for the water and i want the corys they help keep the water clean and gravel and i never had them before and its boreing just haveing all the same fish u got live plants in that tank? review on the tank :shout:

he swaped out for a better filter. two filters would mean extra filtration, which is good, however you would need to slow the flow a bit or it will be slamming the fish into the gravel and glass.

ill have alook at fitler also what happens if thier is a powercut because i jabe quite a few recently and some for quite long  backup power for filter n heater? how do i get it or anything else

also wow just looked t ghe fluval 3 plus internal filter mite get that it looks amazing says 90degree direntnal flow does the flow move from side to side? and bettas dnt like alot of flow is it suitable for them also says Space for optional Polyester or Carbon Filter media dnt u need them

hang over the back style filters can dry out during a power outage, Ive had it happen. in tank filters, as long as the filter media stays wet and decently warm will last a while without power. soem one told me around 10 hours.

my husband has a battery backup for the computer, in case he is working on something important, it allows him to shut down and not loose data. I am not sure for how many hours the batery backup would last on a tank.

I swapped the filters as I personally didn't want that huge black box i the corner  The fitted one will work fine though.

Corys are technically not algae eaters  Although they will eat food that falls to the substrate, they are not really considered as tank cleaners. They need to be fed just like other fish. Believe me, they are sensitive fish. I know, had 12 in the past and lost them all

The tank is fine, got live and silk plants, coconut cave, rock caves, tree stump cave

what du u get with the set-up i guess ill buy tht new filter is it very good? and how do u get bacl-up for a tank

but if a cory sees algae will he eat it and act like a algae eater and help clean the tank i will feed them obv

I wouldn't get a fluval 3 if I were you. The flow is pretty strong even when turned down. A Fluval 2 with some modification would work a bit better.

but he has one? have u ever used a fluval 3 and the fluval 2 does up to 60cm and mines 61cm haha that means id have to put it on its max which i dnt want to do
