When you have to use medicine in a tank for sick fish.

What postition do you have the outflow pipe in as i turn it upwards for a good flow towards the back of the tank hitting the glass, as i have the same tank.

When i 1st got the tank i had it bouncing off the back like you mentioned but since then it got weaker so i started to face it forward... Since then i got home tonight and hardly anything was coming out "till i mentioned what i done"

Get a toothbrush an old one where the impellor goes give in a rub inside gently with the tooth brush ,also bang the black outflow tube in the sink to unclog it, and give the grey attachment peice a good brush with the tooth brush.

just been messing around and it now seems much better WITH all the sponges which is good !

I currently have it putting forward to the front of the tank slight upwards so its hitting the top of the water (with both nozzles attached) is this ok ? any tips ?

I only use one nozzle i think, was it blogged up.

Okiedokie :)
Starting from the bottom of the canister, you need to arrange the sponges as follows :

1st basket
2 Fine Blue - and they have a slight gap above them

2nd basket
2 Coarse Blue (or 1 Blue and 1 Green) - See comment regarding green sponge below
1 Black Carbon (see comment about carbon sponge blow)
1 white Filter Floss pad

Green Nitate Sponge
To be honest, get rid of this sponge and replace it with a a coarse blue sponge. The Nitrate sponge only has a very limited life of a few weeks and is costly to replace. If you maintain weekly water changes and do not have an overstocked tank, there is really no need for this sponge

Black Carbon Sponge
This also only has a life of a few weeks. Best to just discard this sponge altogether. But keep one spare so that you can add it to the filter to use after a tank treatment - as it removes all traces of medication.

White Filter Floss
This should be rinsed or entirely replaced on a weekly basis

All blue sponges can be used until they start falling apart (after several years) and there is really no need to replace them every few months. Do however rinse them in some siphoned tank water every now and again. I do mine weekly but other people do theirs every few weeks.

Care of impellor and filter head
This needs a good clean every few weeks. Give it a good rinse under the shower and make sure any gunk is removed.

That should really do the trick and keep your filter running well.

"This is my bottom basket but i only have 1 blue in this and this is how it came"

At the moment the pump seems good and all sponges are in, should i mess around and take the black and green out then ? will these deffo not be needed and do i just let the other sponges drop down then within the basket ?

ps - should the filter be firing towards top of the water (to give a ripple effect) or just into the middle (no ripple) ?

There about ready for removing anyway the green nitrate sponge, and the black carbon sponge, if the tank has been set up a month, squeeze the muck off them onto the blue sponges, buy some more blue sponges instead to replace them with, same as bloozoo 2 has said always keep a black sponge in cuboard for when needed, then when you have to put a black sponge in to remove meds, remove blue sponge, but squeeze the muck off it onto another sponge, then boil it in the microwave a few minutes, let dry put back in the cuboard, till you take the black sponge out again, then add it back to the tank, and squeeze some old blue sponges muck onto the clean blue sponge to get the bacteria going again.

I have mine sligtly pointed upwards for a ripple effect, as if i point it in the middle it tends to blow the fish about.

As I said, the bottom basket needs 2 fine sponges. That's how it should be.
For further clarification see the instruction manual.

If you want to run your filter as it should be and carry the bioload for which it's intended, you will need to have the correct sponges in the correct places.

If you choose to discard the green (Nitrate) sponge you can only do so if you replace it with a coarse blue sponge.

You can't run a filter with fewer sponges than it's intended for.

Ok thanks guys

Strange because my bottom basket only has 1 sponge in it (blue) but has fittings for 2 if required.. Guy in shop said i only needed 1 there

Have a blue one up witht he black and green etc tho

ps - will it cause problems then if i leave the black / green sponge in as im not sure when they are and arent needed (med etc)

what more can I say :/
you've asked advice which I have given in a way so that you can operate the Compact H filter system as it should be and provided you with the Juwel instruction manual.
If you choose to run it with 1 sponge, then so be it - but expect problems with your tank maintenance.

Mine only had one course blue sponge at the bottom so added another one as you say there is room for two.
