Do I really need to aerate the water/gravel/sand somehow? How would I go about doing this? Just getting a small bubble wall? Would that do the trick?

and

I've read about the styrofoam or something that you put under the tank? What is that made of? And does it need to fill that whole space or what?

Answers please... I think my dad and I are going to get the wood for the tank's stand tomorrow.

Your filtration should aerate the tank just fine. The type of tank determines if you need the layer of foam. All-Glass designed tanks are supported by the rim, the bottom is raised a bit. You never want to support a tank of this design in the center. Some other tanks have the bottom flush with the rim. A thin layer of foam to even out any irregularitites will keep the bottom from cracking.
