How many bags of Argos play sand do I need to buy to fill up my 2ft (62L) tank?

also is it worth buying two bottles of household Ammonia? or will the one do?

Hey just got in from a nice shop haha.

Gosh that bag of sand was heavy! but for £2.89 who's complaining? :shout:

The thing is I put the water in the tank yesterday once I set it up so was just gonna put the sand in with it as it is...

However just noticed that my heater was set really high... (burnt my hand on the side of the tank...) 115 degrees F!!
So have turned down the heater... (bit of a crap heater really as it doesn't show the temp, just a high and low symbol  )

Also found the Homebase Ammonia! :D

The most sand you will need is probably less than 15 Kg. A single bottle of ammonia is a lifetime supply for cycling tanks. My one bottle is several years old and has cycled at least 15 tanks. I have even used it on a few occasions to maintain a filter for a time after removing fish from a tank and before putting new fish into the tank.

the sand will need washing before it goes in the tank as it will contain loads of dirt and dust particles that dont really need to be in your tank..... it will settle and clear much quicker. if you do just throw it in then im sure your filter will eventually sort it out but then you will have to service the filter and clean that out so its up to you i guess... also i would invest in a more accurate heater with temp settings on it to get a set temp sorted :good:
