Quick Nitrate Question

k so my 29 gallon is cycled so i added 1 more fish in yester day,and there is a ammonia spike from 0ppm to o.50,i want to do a water change ,that would get rid of the ammonia but wouldnt that also lower my good nitrates makeing a bigger spike?

What method did you use to cycle your tank? Nirates are not a good thing for fish its not a bad thing either if there controlled. I would do a 50 percent water change then test it again in a few hours

i did a fishless cycle and but i thought they were good and ok um but when i do this water change only good will come right? and my ph is 8 and my nitrites are 0

Do the water change to lower ammonia, carry on with 20% water changes weekly after that, nitrates don't need testing for, the test kits are too inaccurate for a decent reading anyway, weekly water changes should keep them within safe levels.

nitrates are the end product of the nitrogen cycle and will build up if not diluted by doing water changes, nitrate is not poisonous to fish unless its really high but as stated above weekly water changes keep it at a safe level
