Hello all

Well since it's christmas I have talked the wife round to buying me a new tank, this time i'm going for a 48x15x18 which should do me right enough :) found a 48x18x18 for £50 recently but it would'nt fit on my stand :(

So tonight i'm on the hunt for extras and so far my cart contains a double 55w interpet compact starter, 2 55w daylight plus tubes to go with the single 55w that I already have. I intend to stick with sand in my new setup but would like some advice on what to put under it.

Should I be looking at Laterite or something like the Seachem Flourite?

Looking to buy this week so any help would be great

Laterite deffinatly helps but i cant comment on flourite having not used it. Suggest a good undergravel heater as well to prevent your hand becoming anairobic.

Been looking at the undergravel heater cables but the one question I have about those is do you need a stat for them?

They are always switched on so you will need to keep an eye on the temp. in hot weather.

A layer of either Laterite or similar, i use TetraPlant Completesubstrate and it works great.
The jury is still out on the benefits of the cable heater, TBH. Do a search on here for 'cable heaters' and see what you think. You might also want to consider a CO2 system of some sort as you have a decent amount of light there. If you need any more info, just ask...
