Cool, thanks for all the input everyone.

If I get a bichir...I'd certainly be relocating my corys. I'm reluctant to do this because I'm rather attached to them, and the tank I'd be putting them in has gravel instead of sand. Also it's going to be very hard without first ripping my tank apart  .

So we'll see how it goes, now if I do impulse-buy a small bichir, I know what to do when it comes to rehoming fish.

I take it there's no smaller, safer species of bichir I could possibly source out from somewhere?
I got a small Senegal on Sunday...he's about 2" and i got it for £7.95. He's in with cories at the mo and he's doing fine.
At the LFS he was in with small golden barbs and im using him as an experiment to see if i keep him with small fish whilst his small...he might come accustomed to live with smaller fish....but i doubt somehow that this will work lol
With regards to prices...small 2-4" ones go for £7.95, 6" go for £16.95 and full growns go for £22.95 around where i live :D

remember you have been warned...he will try and catch your fish, dont foget hes a predator....ive been there with the shredded corys, even though they were far far larger then her at the time.

Senegals are oppurtunists, keeping them with small fish for a long time isn't going to make any difference, once he is big enough he will eat them.

I'd agree with the comments. I have an ornate now ut have had senegal in the past, great fish which they are they are also accomplished hunters and I have seen mine in past go for smaller fish that have been in there. I used to have quite large congos that were attacked and I suspected the ornate at the time due to the fact they had bite chunks out of them

hi i would like to ask what kind of treatment should i give to my sick bichir, he appears to have something on his scales near his neck. it was red and it look likes he was beaten, but there are no other fish in the tank except another small bichir.. and he appears to be weak now..

tnx

I know I made this thread ages ago, but since the questions kinda related - how about rope fish with corys?

I know they get longer but they seem thinner, and maybe aren't as predatory?

well i have 2 ropefish around 13" and around 6-7 " Bichir,,, i dont think the rope fish will touch the cory's! i hav 3 cory, as for my bichir he hasnt touched them,,,,, if u get the bichir when he is small and grows up with the corys they should be fine, i find he only goes for any new fish i put in, then again it varies form bichir to bichir,,,! but id say if u mange to get baby bichir its worth the risk!! and if u get ropefish i wud advise 2 or more they like to be in groups!
